Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of distinctive features and contradictions of the professional choice of students – humanitarians based on empirical data of monitoring sociological research “Contradictions and paradoxes of the socialization of student youth in conditions of transitivity of modern Russian society” (2016), “Socialization and education of students of universities in the Rostov region” ( 2006, 2011). The article analyzes the main motives for choosing a future profession, the influence of parents on professional choice, attitudes towards the chosen direction of training, satisfaction with professional choice, motivation for attending training sessions, gender perspective of professional self-determination, etc. The article discusses the interrelationship and interdependence of professional socialization and communicative culture. It is recommended for graduate students, teachers of higher education institutions, employees of management of the higher education, as well as to all those who are interested in the topic of professional development of the modern Russian youth.
