Similarity of Italian and Russian Public Spirit as a Basis for Successful Intercultural Communication of the Two Nations

Abstract. The paper is dedicated to the problem of an appropriate approach to a successful intercultural communication between Italian and Russian people. The author analyses the main aspects of the formation of public spirit in the two countries as process an modern trend that defines an attitude to globalization and sovereignty. The article highlights the common features of these processes as both nations belong to the great world cultures and have imperial and totalitarian past. Special attention has been given to the similarity of the features which shape patriotism on the local and regional levels in Italy and Russia, which provides basis for successful communication of the two nations. Finding individual and collective interests for the achievement of effective mutual understanding in intercultural communication of the Russians and the Italians defines the suitable choice of means, actions and activities based on the common and specific features of national public spirit.
