Abstract: The article describes the basic principles for the use of theoretical and methodological provisions of Bourdieu to study road safety system. An analogy is drawn with a structured social space reality of traffic, the existence of which is objective in nature. Actions of drivers and pedestrians are seen as subjective practices, and the road safety rules that an individual learns, and principles of culture of interaction are the bases of habitus. The results of the author’s sociological studies are given showing evaluation of drivers and pedestrians of road safety systems and the main problems in its maintenance (increase in the number of road accidents, violation or ignorance of safety rules, road conditions, and carelessness). The basics of personal relationships to the observance of safety rules of behavior on the roads are discussed. The novelty of these results is a comparative analysis and assessment of communicative interaction between pedestrians and drivers as actors of road space.
