Abstract: The article explores the status of modern Russian political elite. It presents the characteristics and peculiarities of the formation of the modern Russian political elite. For Russia characterized by the growing role of the elite in the political system, the main attention is focused on the most important existing problems – closeness and preservation of the political elite. The author draws an important parallel of dependence of the economy from politics and makes a conclusion –
lack of rotation of the political elite poses a threat of stagnation to the economy. Examines the necessity of renewing the political elite with a new generation of politicians, using the mechanism of free elections.
