Abstract: The application of the concepts of “authoritarian personality” and the “right authoritarianism” in the study of public opinion in the U.S., the Soviet Union and Russia is analyzed. Results of studies of public opinion on these issues in the USSR and the USA are given, as well as the comparison of the degree of authoritarianism of the population in the two countries in the 90s and in 2015. The Comparison shows the increase in the level of authoritarian submission in Russia, its decrease in the U.S.
